Do Christians Believe in Evolution?

What is Evolution?

That answer depends on who you follow. We have Darwin’s theory of evolution and then something called Theistic evolution. Neither of these theories gives God the full credit, admiration and praise He deserves for Creation. And yet, some Christians still believe in some form of “evolution.”

Darwin’s Theory of Evolution

Touted by some as “one of the crowning achievements of modern Western civilization,” Darwin’s theory is one that “many Christians well-versed in evolutionary science find it entirely compatible with their religious beliefs.”

I find that laughable. Thankfully, I don’t have “religious” beliefs. I have Biblical beliefs, a true belief in God’s Word, not man’s world.

Theistic Evolution

With this theory, Christians try to bring God into the evolution equation, but only in the very beginning. It is “the view that God created matter and after that did not guide or intervene to cause any empirically detectable change in the natural behavior of matter until all living things had evolved by purely natural processes.” (Source: Theistic Evolution: A Scientific, Philosophical, and Theological Critique)

I prefer Answers in Genesis‘ explanation of theistic evolution; “the idea that God started or directed evolutionary processes. This view makes God a bumbling, incompetent Creator and the author of death and suffering as it puts them before mankind’s sin. It calls into question the truth of God’s Word and his character as an all-powerful, loving God.” (Source: Answers in Genesis)

I don’t want to believe in anything that calls God and His Word into question. That’s not what true Christians do.

Why Do Christians Believe in Evolution in Any Form?

These theories completely go against the Scripture. How can Christians claim to believe anything in God’s Word if they can’t even believe in the beginning?

Think about the intricacies of the human body. Sorry, but that didn’t just ‘happen’ without divine intervention. The same can be said for every living, breathing creature on the Earth.

Don’t get me wrong, science is awesome. How things work, what makes things do what they do; how the planets orbit without smashing into each other, how vast the universe is; it’s all by design, God’s design.

It wasn’t some huge BANG out of nothing that the Earth, the universe and everything within just happened to appear. That doesn’t make much sense, no matter how many books I read on the subject or professors I hear trying to explain it.

Believing in any form of evolution removes our complete FAITH in God, what He can do and what He has already done. It goes well beyond just science.

Yes, we should all believe in science. God created science after all. He created man’s minds to make some kind of sense of the world, the world that He created.
