1 Peter 5:7 - Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Faith and Folding Laundry

Finding God in the Mundane Moments

We tend to look for God in the big moments—mountaintop experiences, powerful worship services, life-changing revelations. But the truth? God is just as present when we’re sorting socks as He is when we’re standing in a sanctuary.

And if you’re fortunate enough to be able to hang your laundry outside to dry, what an inspiration! You can worship and thank God for the sunny day and the warm breeze flowing through the clotheslines!

Let’s talk about what it looks like to live out our faith in the everyday stuff—the ordinary, the repetitive, and yes, even the boring.

The Myth of “More Spiritual” Moments

There’s this idea that our quiet time has to look like coffee, candles, and an open Bible on a clean table. But God doesn’t require perfect circumstances to meet with us.

  • You can talk to Him while loading the dishwasher.
  • You can worship while folding towels.
  • You can pray in the car line at school.

God is not waiting for you to “get your life together.” He wants to be invited into the middle of it—right here, right now.

What the Bible Says About Mundane Faithfulness

Jesus spent 30 years doing ordinary things before His ministry began. Scripture celebrates small, faithful moments:

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” (Colossians 3:23 NIV)

Even laundry.
Even leftovers.
Even late-night dishes.

Practicing Presence in the Ordinary

When we train our hearts to look for God in small moments, we start seeing Him everywhere:

  • In the warmth of a fresh towel
  • In the rhythm of a quiet afternoon
  • In the giggle of a toddler running through the house

It doesn’t take a retreat to feel His nearness. Sometimes it just takes a shift in perspective.

For instance, instead of grumbling that it’s laundry day, trying saying a thankful prayer to the Lord that you have clothes to wash – even if you have to take them to a public laundromat.

5 Ways to Add Faith to Your Everyday Tasks

  1. Pray while you work. Turn chores into conversations.
  2. Play worship music. Let the soundtrack of your home shift the atmosphere.
  3. Memorize Scripture. Tape verses to your mirror or washer.
  4. Light a candle and say a quick “thank You.” Make the moment sacred.
  5. Wear faith-based reminders. A T-shirt with a verse can redirect your heart (and someone else’s!) all day long.

From Mundane to Meaningful

Faith isn’t just for Sundays.
It’s for laundry day, Tuesday traffic, and bedtime battles.

The everyday stuff? That’s where most of life happens.
And God’s already there, waiting to meet you in it.

You don’t need to escape your life to experience God. You just need to invite Him into it.
