The business world is changing and if you’re a Christian entrepreneur, or you want to be, you need to keep up with these changes to stay profitable. This is just as applicable to an online Christian t-shirts business like mine. The profits may be small per sale, but with the right applications, more sales will make this a very profitable business.
The Myth About Money
The actual verse is:
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
Should a Christian Entrepreneur “Love” Money?
Not to the point where it’s a priority over everything else, no. But we can love what the money enables us to do – help others, donate to charities, evangelism, and increase what we give in the offering plate on Sunday to help with church outreach programs.
While we don’t love the money, we can still strive to be wealthy knowing what that money can help us do for others in the name of Jesus.
Will Working for Yourself Make You Rich?
It can, if it’s the Lord’s will. Depending on the products or services you sell or the business opportunity you sign up with, you can earn an income to replace your full-time job 10 times over, if you work for it.
That’s where the internet comes in to help make things a bit easier and give you a farther reach than opening a local brick and mortar shop.
The Internet and the Christian Entrepreneur
If you’ve thought of going into business for yourself, the Internet makes it quite a bit easier today. On the other hand, you can quickly get overwhelmed with all of the ads for business opportunities to make money online.
And as Christians, we need to check these opportunities out thoroughly so we don’t accidentally get involved with something that goes against our beliefs and values.
Take Advantage of the Skills God Gave You
One of the fastest ways I started making an at-home income back in the day, like 2008-2010, was doing transcription from home. I already had the experience from a former full-time job, so I put my skills to use from home.
I was rather choosy in the types of content I wrote. No pornography, for one thing; nothing that had to do with demon worship, Satanism, those kinds of things. That kept me honest and true to my morals.
Transcription used to be a sought after work-from-home job 10+ years ago. You can still find at-home, online work as a transcriptionist today, but a lot of business owners are using AI (artificial intelligence) with great success, so the market isn’t as wide as it used to be.
Medical issues caused me to shut down my transcription business and move on to something else. So I started designing and selling laminated bookmarks for a couple of years.
Take Advantage of Your God-Given Talents
I had the computer and software experience and the tools to design, print, and laminate cardstock bookmarks. Of course, I needed to create a website and market the business. I did very well for a couple of years, too. And then more medical issues caused the shutdown of that business.
Eventually, the market dried up for solo entrepreneurs as VistaPrint and iPrint started selling ads on Google and pretty much dominated the market.
Do You Enjoy Writing?
More recently, I put my writing skills to work writing articles for an “article broker.” Bloggers and other content marketers put their requests on the website. The writers picked out the articles we wanted to write, and if you were good enough, you might land a couple of repeat “direct” orders too. With direct orders, I could charge a little more and it boosted my levels so I earned more overall.
I was making a couple hundred dollars a month with that gig for quite a while. And again, the orders stopped coming in for longer articles that paid well. In fact, I was on the site today since I’m still a member, and there are ZERO orders for content writers. I really think it has a lot to do with AI or all these marketers found another outlet for getting their content created.
If you love to write and you want to make money with it, you have to be good and fast, and you need to know how to navigate the internet landscape so you can get some reliable and repeat clients.
Another writing opportunity for the Christian Entrepreneur is writing what’s called PLR or Private Label Rights content. If you can crank out 5 to 10 articles quickly, you can package them up and sell them to other marketers. Those marketers in turn will put their own names to the content and pretty much do whatever they want with it.
I used to own a blog for newbie vapers and wrote a lot of articles on that topic. When I shut down the blog, I sold the articles on fiverr.com and made some of my money back that I’d spent on domain and web hosting.
Other Business Opportunities for the Christian Entrepreneur
Another area of writing is creating and publishing ebooks on Amazon. Many entrepreneurs make a full-time living just publishing ebooks.
If you have a Cricut machine, the ideas are endless! You can incorporate your faith into making wall art, custom greeting cards, start a vinyl lettering business, and a variety of other products. Stickers are rather popular today, too, especially on Etsy.
If you don’t have a die-cutting machine but you still want to promote your Christian faith on products to sell, you can start your own t-shirt business online. With the many online platforms available today, you just need to pick one that you feel comfortable with using.
TeePublic, for example, is the site I use for my Christian t-shirts and other items. The company handles everything from collecting the money to shipping, returns and customer service. You just create and upload your designs and they do the rest. It’s even free to get started!
Create a Christian YouTube Channel
I’ve come across many Christian YouTube channels over the years. The subject matter is anything that you enjoy talking about – with a focus on your faith. You can share your favorite Bible verses and teach through video.
You can start an online devotional channel. Through your channel, you can promote faith-based products for your visitors to buy. They can be other marketers’ products or you can create your own. Once you have enough traffic, you can apply to have your channel monetized and start earning some revenue from your videos.
The Christian Entrepreneur Doesn’t Get Rich Overnight
None of these options will make you wealthy beyond your wildest dreams overnight. You must be diligent in your new business. You must pray and ask God if this is what He wants for you to do.
It takes patience and perseverance to make it. I know; I’m still waiting. But, the Lord may not want me to be “rich.” Actually, considering we have a home, vehicles, friends and an awesome church family, we’re already rich! The Lord provides, and that’s all that should really matter for the Christian Entrepreneur.
